You are when you eat
Eat breakfast like an emperor, lunch like a king and dinner like a beggar. This proverb is well known to everyone. But what's the truth? Is breakfast really the most important meal?
The "internal clock"
For a long time, scientists disagreed about the importance of the morning meal. While some believed that breakfast would drive up blood sugar levels and thus promote the development of obesity, others were convinced that breakfast eaters actually have a lower risk of developing obesity and diabetes. Countless scientific studies from both camps prove that this question can hardly be answered unequivocally.
Current analyses assume that it is more to do with chronobiology, i.e. the biorhythm, whether you are inclined or not to eat breakfast. If it is easy to get up in the morning and you feel more productive after getting up, you are definitely a morning person and therefore often a breakfast person. It is often observed that they tend not to have as high a rise in blood sugar as evening people. Accordingly, a hearty breakfast is important for morning people. However, the controversial question of "breakfast yes or no" is far from scientifically proven. Rather, these observations are indications that cannot be easily generalized.
Routines and habits
Experts believe that routines and habits have a much greater influence on eating behavior than biorhythms. Someone who is not used to eating breakfast and cannot get a bite down in the morning does not have to force themselves to eat breakfast. In evolutionary terms, there would also be no need for breakfast, as blood sugar levels in the morning are usually high enough to start the day. Even prehistoric man had enough energy in the morning to go hunting first and then eat. Nutritional therapy practice often shows that non-breakfast eaters are more prone to evening cravings and tend to have uncontrollable food cravings. At best, it would be worth trying to eat three main meals a day, including breakfast.
Brot als Fundament
But what should end up on your plate? How can you start the day with energy? The purpose of breakfast should be to raise blood sugar levels and keep them at a certain level for as long as possible. To do this, it makes sense to top up your empty battery in the morning. To achieve this in a healthy, pleasant and stable way, the composition of the breakfast plays an important role. There are different ways to do this. In addition to a well-prepared muesli breakfast with fresh fruit and nuts, high-quality bread and pastries are also suitable. If you also choose the wholemeal version of the latter, you've got a perfect start to the day. There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to toppings: curd cheese spread, cheese or ham and plenty of fresh vegetables will fill you up and provide valuable nutrients. For those who prefer something sweet, we recommend a high-quality fruit spread, ideally combined with fresh fruit. Nothing stands in the way of an energetic, good start to the day!
