Not only top athletes from all over the world but also bread and rolls are experiencing peak season at the Winter Olympics in South Korea. And, just like the athletes, backaldrin’s master bakers are giving their all in Pyeongchang.

As the official bread partner of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) and the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB), this is the second time that the international family business is providing fresh bread, pastries and other fine baked goods at the Austria and Germany Houses at the Olympic Games. Eight master bakers and a master confectioner from backaldrin bake there on a daily basis in specially equipped bakeries to supply the athletes and numerous guests. In addition to Kornspitz®, there are also Kaiser rolls, pretzels, apple strudel or Sacher Torte to enjoy. In total, around ten tonnes of raw materials were delivered to South Korea at the beginning of February. This results in a total of about 2.5 tonnes of bread rolls and 2 tonnes of cake. These figures show that, once again, sports and nutrition are a golden duo. Apart from catering for the guests, providing the athletes with freshly-baked “power sources” is extremely important. “The positive feedback from the athletes makes us quite proud,” says Chief Master Baker Hermann Lang.
